Default Exactly half or close to it?

I am ready to do a final cut on each half of a bamboo rod to bring it to a finishd length of 7'-6". Should one of the two sections necesarily be slightly longer than the other? Should the final length of the tip section, including mounted tip top, be slightly longer than the butt half with reel seat mounted? By how much, 1/8-1/4" as long as the assembled final total length is 90" in my case? Thanks for your help

When the rod is all finished the two sections should be the same length.

If the ferrules are not mounted, measure the thickness of the butt cap, the slide length and water dam of the female ferrule then subtract that number from the target length to see where to cut the butt. Measure the male's water dam and the tiptop to see where to cut the female. Always measure the cane where the ferrule station will be and use that as a firm point to measure from(for example, if you used a 13/64" ferrule then cut the cane where it measures .203").

If the ferrules are mounted, just the tiptop and the butt cap need to be measured to figure out where to cut.

A short version of what Jklett said.

The total length of the rod assembled should be exactly the designed length of 7'-6" (90")

For a 2 piece rod, the finished length of each section should be identical and equal to one half of the design length plus one half of the ferrule slide length.

For a 7 1/2' rod I cut the blank as follows. Butt section 45", tip section 45 1/2" Once you add the ferrules the lengths should be the same.

be careful with that. depends upon the depth of the male ferrule...

Been doing like that for 10 years on over 150 rods. Works for me.
