    Default Carmel, CA

    Hey folks:
    Wife and I are headed out to Carmel tomorrow. We'll be about 500yds from the mouth of the Carmel River.We plan to "gargle the grape" and wet a line if possible. Anyone know of FF oportunities in that area. I understand that the season runs till March 7th but where can I take best advantage. I'd prefer to fish trout as opposed to salmon but in a pinch.......
    Thanks in advance
    Mark

    I was stationed down there many moons ago and I do not know of any trout fishing anywere near there. I have herd that the salmon have omse back but do not know this first hand? The closest Trout fishing that I know of would be the Kings river or Putach Creek (Spelling?) both a long drive from there? Sorry I can't help more but you may be able to throw a few flies in the ocean? Ron

    Hey Ron;
    You must have been stationed at FT. Ord or at the Praesidio of Moneterey Language School.
    I understand there are many stresms and rivers into the Pacific in that area but water flow and fishability are dicey. But on the other hand the views are................

    You could try calling Ernie's Casting Pond (a fly shop with an odd name) in Santa Cruz and see if they have any info. You can find their contact info on their web site:

    Make sure you have a CA fishing license (you can get a 2-day non-resident one if I'm not mistaken).

    You might also try:

    They're in Carmel though most of their online fishing reports are out of date...there are a few recent ones though.

    Might at least get you a local phone number to contact once you're there for where to go...

    They have some info on the Carson River on their web site (along with lots of other places if you poke around a bit):
