    Default Applying Epoxy to wraps

How do you apply the epoxy to the wraps -- that is, do you apply it to the rod while the rod is rotating -- or do you apply the epoxy first to the wraps -- all of them in a section or two sections -- and then start the rod rotating on the motor?

In the past, I always applied the epoxy while the rod was rotating. However, reading an article on rod building they seem to suggest that the epoxy is applied first and then start the rotation after it is applied -- I guess you kind of rotate the rod by hand while working on each wrap.

What do you all do and/or suggest?

I apply the finish to the wraps while it is turning.

I do as harley. Except when I lave to cover a very large or lengthy area , like a large diamond wrap , feather inlay or a signature area ..then I apply length wise to the rod by hand (brush) first , and then rotate it.

Something you may want to try, the last few rods I built, I applied the finish using a wooden chop stick. It picked up just enough finish with each dip to do a single wrap. It allows very precise delivery and placement. No runs, drips or errors and did not introduce any bubbles to the finish. Plus instant clean up. I don't know how it would work if you were applying while rotating tho.
