    Default Crappie

Had an incredible night with the crappie tonight. I went to a local lake and landed over 50. None were very big with the largest being about 10" but for a while, I was bringing in one every other cast with hits on every cast.

What were you using? Crappie Candy? Clousers?

Can't complain about that!!!!!!! Depending on the size limit might be time for folks to take a bunch home and give the others room to grow. They are mighty fine eatin.

    Congrats

Sounds like a heck of an outing! I'am with Fatman, keep some for the table and give the others some time to grow.

Thanks guys. There are plenty of meat fishermen at this lake. I love to eat crappie, I'm ust too darn lazy to clean a mess of them. Fortunately, this particular lake has no problem with an abundance of folks who help thin the herd.

The fly I was using is a very simple tie. In fact, it's not much of a fly at all but I catch a lot of fish with it.

Hook: 2X streamer size 6 to size 10 (I was using size 8 for the crappie)
Tail: Clump of white maribou with a few strands of crystal flash mixed in
Body: Silver tinsel wrapped up the hook shank
Head: red thread head (about 2 hook eyes)

it sinks slowly. Strip it in with a "twitching" type retrieve. It looks a lot like a minnow when fished this way.

That's it. It takes all of 5 minuts to tie this if I'm being really careful. For the most part, sloppy ones work better anyway.

Oh by the way, I caught 32 more last night.
