Are the 1492's not convertible right to left because of the click and pawl setup?

I thought it was likely because the small square line guard was not reversible...however the newer ones don't have the small guard and they are also said not to be convertible.

Yer right ducksterman, I've got one like that and it sits in the back of the bookcase never to be used by me.

They 1492's are the only Medalists that are not reversible, as far as I know.
