If you are going out with a guide , most of times, they will have an outfit that they let their clients use.
You might be better off using one of theirs and pocketing the change until you can afford to sink more into a better outfit if it turns out that you like tarpon fishing.
I started at a low end with the rods but got a Tibor "Billy Pate" reel--i then went to mid priced rods and after a few years found that the high end rods have some advantages other than making your wallet lighter to carry.
The high end tarpon outfits are so limited in their use elsewhere that it just makes better sense to use the guides' setups---(I found out 4 rods, 2 reels and about 8 lines later)
