    Default DIY crosscut rabbit strips

All this talk of zonker strips got me thinking....

When cutting cross cut strips at a 45 degree angle to the nap, does it matter if I am right or left handed? I would think that cutting strips on the bais gives you two options, strips can be cut out with the 45 degrees angle clockwise, or anti-clockwise from the nap direction.

I would assume one set works better for left handed tiers and one set would work better for right handed tyers.

I know that when I tie a fly I wrap 'backwards' from the conventional way, so I have to cut my strips opposite of the ones sold in the shops...

I'll asume it's the same for leftys but I just don't know.

Wouldn't it depend on which end of the strip you tied in first?

Of course, you could wrap clockwise or counterclockwise?

That is what I was thinking....I had no idea there was a left or a right....just flip them over

    It does matter...

If you 'flip' them over, the fur points the wrong way...

Thank's for the replies, it confirms my thought eperiments....

Tying the strip in by the other end would make the hair point to the front.

Changing the direction of the wrap, over the top vs. under the bottom (or clockwise vs. counter clockwise) would work, this would allow a strip cut for a lefty to be used by a right hand-er and visa-versa,

I just ordered some rabbit hides and will have the opportunity to experiment...

BTW, do most tiers wrap in an 'over the top' direction or 'under the bottom'. I learned to tie 'over the top', but I see some tutorials that show the opposite. IE. Oliver Edward's fine toutorials all show the 'under the bottom' as his standard direction. Is there an advantage to either or is it just personal preference?
