My original reply on studded felt soles leads me to post this separate tip. See: http://www.flyanglersonline.com/bb/s...ad.php?t=27728

Most guides will not let you wear studded boots on drift boats.

I bought an oversized pair of rubber slip on shoe covers that are used on dress shoes. I lined them with two layers of used thin aluminum plates from an offset printing press. Get them free from a local printer.

The the double layer of aluminum keeps the short studs from poking into the rubber soles and the rubber soles protect the bottom of fiberglass drift boats. To wade fish you just slip off the booties and you have studded felt soles. Put em back on before getting back into the boat. The rubber bottoms give you a good grip on fiberglass.

I use them when I wear my studded boots into fly shops. They appreciate it.

This is another reason that you want short studs. You can use the rubber booties to protect drift boats and you won't need a plain pair of felts for wearing on boats.
