Spain - Gut Leaders

I remember using gut leaders back in the late forties and early fifties. Think the leaders, or maybe it was only the gut, were made in Spain. Just wondering, are gut leaders still made, anywhere, in this world?
Back then, I was not concerned with drag, so I do not remember how these gut leaders performed, when well soaked.
