I lived in Northern NM for many years when I was younger. There are lots of great fishing oppertunities within a couple hours of Albuquerque ( I assume you mean Rio Rancho which is near Albuquerque). The Rio Grande gorge between Toas and Tres Peidras has good trout fishing. Iv'e caught trout over 5 lbs there. and northern pike over 38 inches long. The trout streams in the Sangre de Cristo and San Juan ranges have some great fishing. The Los Pinos river on the Colo NM boarder and the Vallecitos and Brazos rivers are great. Iv'e hads many a 100 plus fish in a day trips there (C & R). The San Juan river in Northwest NM has a very productive trophy trout area. There are some good reservoirs to fish as well. Cochiti near Albuquerque, and Vado Northwest of Espanola. And its not that far to Colorado.
