I had the good fortune to have Dave send me instructions for this a while back. I used backing rather than mono to tie the loop. I thought it would look and hold better. Not true. Use mono, it is tighter and smaller.

The one downside to the loop is that the loop back can get caught on your guides if you reel it into the rod. The upside is that you should not be doing this when you have a fish on. More importantly, when the loop is in the guides and you are pulling it out (as with the start of your fishing day) it never gets caught and always comes out without a hitch. This is much more important.

Again, thanks Dave for a good loop, saving me money (I don't need to buy those "chinese finger" loops) and for thinking about how to advance the quality of what we do at a lesser expense.
