Thumbs up First outing this year

Good buddy Gary & I made it out today for the first time this year. Didn't go to "The Factory" as they were not home & I will not show up there "unannounced". We hit 3 other ponds within 2 miles of one another. Water temp was 53-54 degrees & action was extremely slow. I took 2 bass, 12" & 13" on a pink honeybug, & a solid 9" gill on my yellow woolly worm. It was just great to get out....Good for the soul!!
What I was most pleased about was the performance of my new 3wt line. It was my 1st time using a double taper as opposed to the weight forward I have always used before, & it performed very well....I lost NO distance (at least that we could see) & it roll casts like a champ.
    Avery good day.

Sounds like a fun day Mike. But, as to your distance casting I always thought 20 feet was your max??!!

    Mike -

Welcome to the world of DT lines. On the lighter weight rods, I think they make so much more sense and do most things better than WF lines, assuming that you get one that matches to your rod reasonably well.

You probably wouldn't have caught ANYTHING with that old WF line today ??!!

John, I assure you that Mike can always catch a tree at least with any line.

Glad you got into some fish, Mikey. I snuck out yesterday for a short while in a backwater lagoon off of Lake Erie. No takers at all, and I wrapped it up after 20 minutes. The wind was blowing in off the lake, and I was chilled to the bone.

Thanks for the invite to fish with you, but we had our daughter and her fiance here for dinner, and the girls were out shopping for "Mother of the Bride" dresses.

Sorry guys, but no pics this trip, even though I had the camera with me. I just told Gary that I don't consider small bass "picture worthy" & believe it or not, a 9" gill is NOT big in the ponds I fish. I WILL take pics next trip, regardless of size.

John...I became a fan of the DT on my 3wt real fast! Very nice performance.
Tim...It was great to get out & I will check out the article. You MUST come up!!
Joe...You know we'll hit the water before long. My wife is also shopping for that perfect "Mother of the Bride dress".....I'm just glad I don't have to go WITH her!!

    Hi Mike,

Glad to hear you have had a chance to get out and start the 2009 season. I had a bass, crappie and then a decent bluegill on my first venture out this year. The gill was good size for the pond I was at, about 7-8", funny thing, it was bigger than the bass and the crappie.

    Take care,

    Mike
