    Not what I would call a great way to use the shore line of any pristine country...

    It is to stop a tanker port? Tankers are a safe and reliable way to transport oil. Ever since exxon valdez tankers have been manufactured better, and the operators are more strictly regulated.

    The canadians are going through a bit of a recession as well, and building a port would certainly help out the job market more than not building one.
