I don't hunt much but I think ALL sportsmen should be aware of what's happening to your brother sportsmen.

Basically this bill before Congress (HR45) says gun control is frighteningly close. This would make it illegal to own a firearm - any rifle with a clip or ANY pistol unless:
    .It is registered
    .You are fingerprinted
.You supply a current Driver's License
.You supply your Social Security #
.You will submit to a physical & mental evaluation at any time of
    the government's choosing
.Each update - change or ownership through private or public sale must
be reported and costs $25 - Failure to do so you automatically lose the
right to own a firearm and are subject up to a year in jail.
.There is a child provision clause on page 16 section 305 stating a
child-access provision. Gun must be locked and inaccessible to any child
    under 18.
They would have the right to come and inspect that you are storing
your gun safely away from accessibility to children and fine is
punishable for up to 5 yrs. in prison.

    Hey Coach,
Actually the bill was introduced by the infamous bobby rush (D-IL)elected to congress, to protect his constituents from the armed citizenry.
Rep. rush was one of the originators of the black panther party and now a member of congress. Just goes to show ya that not everyone should be allowed to vote.

Alway remember the 2nd Amendment wasn't put in to protect the hunter but to protect the citizen from government. If the British has a good gun control plan in 1776 we would still be subjects, not free citizens.

Just go to http://thomas.loc.gov/ and put in HR45 in the "search bill status" box (after you highlight the button for bill number)

All gun sales should be put through this procedure, even used guns.

    This is just smart.

I own 5 guns, 3 shotguns and 2 rifles. I dont see what the big deal is about this bill. While i would prefer it to be shot down, i wouldnt be up in arms if it was passed.

We are not children in a sandbox that require constant supervision. We are independent individuals with certain rights. Measures such as this only serve to place more burden on law abiding citizens.

A mental evaluation? This is akin to a literacy test for voting rights. You think lack of a firearm is going to stop somebody that is certifiably nuts from committing murder?

You think somebody that steals a firearm is going to register it?

Is the two-bit gangster that buys a stolen .38 off his cousin going to get fingerprinted and supply a drivers license and ss#?

Why not be tougher on CONVICTED criminals that use firearms to commit their crimes, rather than be tougher on hunters, collectors and people that want something to protect themselves and their family from somebody that's not going to register their gun before they commit a home invasion?
