Thread: Foam popper

    Default Foam popper

Hoping for warm weather again someday, I tied a couple of these. In the true recession spirit, I made my cutter out of a brass fitting. I ground off most of the ribs and sharpened the end to make a cookie cutter.

The more I look at it, though, I think the tail might be too long. What do you think?

Nah, that tail's not too long....they'll inhale that.

Nice looking fly. Poppers are fun aren't they.

Length is good on a fly for bass. Remember that a 10 inch bass can easily eat a four inch long popper....

I like 2 to 3 times the whole hook length...yours looks about right to me.

For panfish poppers, though, shorter is better. Keeps the little ones from pulling on the tails so much...

Looks good to me. Post a pic of the first fish you catch on it.
