This happened way back in the day when Roy Rogers and Dale Evans were living on the Flying L ranch in Oklahoma. Dale had gone into town and bought Roy a beautiful pair of hand-made boots and had surprised him with the gift. Roy was flabbergasted with how magnificent they were. He thanked her and immediately got on Trigger and rode out into the brush to show the ranch hands his new boots. They also were astonished with them. When he got back to the ranch house, he noticed that the boots had gotten a little muddy so he slipped them off and left them on the porch to dry. He forgot about them and they stayed out all night. In the morning he went to get them and they were chewed to bits. He was infuriated. He asked around if anyone saw what did it and no one did. One ranch hand who had done some leather tanning offered that it probably a bob-cat as one of the compounds that was used in tanning was known to make bob-cats enraged. So, knowing it was most likely a bob-cat that did it, Roy set out on Trigger with his trusty 30-30 to find and gun down the scallywag. Not two hours later he rode back into the door yard with a bob-cat slung over the back of the saddle. The ranch hands seeing this met him and joined in the chorus:

♫ Pardon me Roy, is that the cat that chewed your new shoes? ♫
