    Default Fly fishing journal

Just wondering how many of you keep a journal of your fishing trips.
If so what does it look like? (pic if you have any)
Is your journal laid out in a certain format?
Do you just keep record of certain particulars in a note book?
Do you record certain bits of important information only or write everything you can remember about the fishing trip?

I have fished all my life and never kept record. As i get older I find there is a lot i don't remember and would like too. I plan on starting a journal this spring and I am curious to know how some of you might organize a journal.

    Thanks: Grant

    Grant,
Here you go....it's free & you can customize it. Just print out a page, fill out what you want on your trip & enter it when you get home.

This one I will never part with, Michael and I started fishing together
when he was four. I write in the journal every time we take the boat out
simply because this is where I keep it.

There are about fifty pages of notes, mostly about where, when and what we had for lunch, 99% of the time it was PB&J.

I also have and use a small stream side journal also but have no pics.. It is chucked full of photos of 24" trout caught on size 22 drys..

    ps:
One other thing I keep in the journal shown, is a section written by Michael and I on boating safety, it covers
everything from checking the trailer before we leave, one safety stop and check mid way to our destination , launching and equipment.
He has been doing this with me on every trip since we started and doing a great job too!

I am darn proud of him, the safety part he knows you don't skimp on! It is all part of the boating fun...
It is impossible to have fun without being the safe one!

I kept a notebook for many years as i fished bass tournaments i kept lake names, dates, water temp, weather conditions, number of fish caught , baits used and location of fish, this was before we had gps. Any log you keep will be a great tool and wished i still did this. Somewhere im my travels i lost all my old logs and now have to rely on my memory which is not like it use to be when i was younger.

It's pretty much just something I keep as a memory book more than a scientific endeavor, although I do record flies, weather, water temps, etc., and go back to them from time to time.
If it swims and eats, it'll eat a fly.

    These look great!!
    There are some great ideas!!
I wasn't planning to go into great detiail, but record flies, fish caught, water temp. location and some other general information. Beyond that give it a real personal touch, like some of you have done with the photographs and notes about the trip.
