I like midges under the popper.

Just slow down the cast and open up the loop. You might not cast as far as you usually do, but no way you are going to tangle your rig. If you do, you can send it to me to untangle. I'll even pay postage both ways !!

OK, OK...I may give it a try this year!

Five healthy bluegill in 15 minutes this afternoon. No pics, it was just at dusk.
Fishing a grizzly Boudreaux under a black foam pencil popper. Every fish was caught on the Boudreaux although there were several hits on the popper I missed.

Remember, crimp down your barbs. Two of these fish swallowed the hook and I was able to disgorge it both times using forceps with minimal harm to the fish.

These hits were typical and here's what frequently happens. The popper and dropper lay out on the cast. The popper settles and the dropper starts its decline in the water column. Suddenly the popper disappears. A fish has hit the dropper on the drop. Very common. Hard hook set (remember these are bass or bream, not trout) and a good fight on my 6'3" 3 wt.

Okay, I'm sold. If I can get away I'm going to head out and try my luck from the bank after work. I haven't fly fished in 16 years, a little practice is in order!
