if ya go to walmart hunting section get some blueing... it is cold blueing but if ya heat it on the stove (outside the house !) you can blue any metal permanently as dark as ya want it to be even so dark a blue it looks black... after the blueing process ya need to apply some oil to the surface overnight to set the blueing...
