    Default Old Garcia Rod Questions

Someone just gave me an old fly rod from there basement and I was wondering if anyone could tell me anything about it.

    Details:
    Garcia Conolon USA
    2537T
    8-1/2' Dry Fly Action
    Fast Taper
    wt 5 oz
    Lines-C, HCH, GBF, or #8

The rod is a two piece with a metal ferrule. I googled it, but only found ebay auctions.

I did cast it this morning and couldn't get it down for several cast and then slowed my cast considerable and found it to be wonderfully relaxing. I will definately be taking it out next summer to catch a few bass.

    Thanks,
    ADam

Definitely sounds like a Bass rod. Being fiberglass the action is slower. Forces you to relax - I like that when I'm fishing.

Good rod, not top of the line.
A fishin' pole, not collector's item

    Adam:

As I understood things Concolon was a well respected blank maker that produce many of the midrange fiberglass blanks at the time. Garcia was a sporting goods company and I always assumed that they either wrapped the rods and marketed them or just did the marketing. I used Garcia Conolon spinning rods in the 1960s and had a blue fly rod of the same era. I think that all of the rods at that time used metal ferrules. Glass rods tend to be slower than most if not all graphites so take your time and enjoy. As Dudley says it is a good rod and is made for fishing.

Concolon was the originator of the hollow glass blank.
I don't know how it came about, but at some point they became a division of Garcia.

Top of the line rods included a Wulff signature series and I believe there was a Ritz line too with his parabolic taper.

I had a Garcia 4 star Condolon spinning rod with an internal metal spigot ferrule.

I wish I stll had it but I traded it for an Orvis Limestone Special, (graphite), that I stll have.
