At our local TU meeting last night a presentation was made to one of our members for an outstanding "catch" last fall. Unfortunately, for him, there were two other witnesses. One of the witnesses got up before the assembled crew and related that he'd like to make a special presentation to the "greatest fisherman" in our group. Right away everyone started looking around trying to figure out who the lucky recipient would be and what this was all about. He went on to state that the winner might like to relate the event for those in the audience that weren't aware of the situation. With that said, he promptly pulled out of the little gift bag a twelve inch or so beaver statue in a standing position with a fly stuck in it's nose and asked the winner to come forward. Everyone, including the winner, started howling with laughter about then. The story is, the folks were fishing a good sized river and a beaver came along and swam past them twice, up and back. On the third pass the beaver disapperaed underwater. Our buddy had cast out and started stripping his line back in and all of a sudden there was a tremendous splash as the beaver surfaced hooked in the nose! The fight was on; to the backing a few times, and he was almost to hand when the fly pulled loose. Unfortunately, no one had a camera to record the almost "record catch." A good time was had by all including the winner.
