Thread: Fire fly size

    Default Fire fly size

Wanted to tie up a few fireflys but not sure what sizes to tie...and the pattern doesn't mention it. Thanks for the help.

As in the terrestrial beetle? I tie beetles in sizes 12,14, and 16. I may tie them larger or smaller depending on what my fishing needs require. If i want the fish to hear my fly when it hits the water I'll tie them in size 10.

I tie my "lightning bugs" in size 16 although a 14 wouldn't be a bad idea either based on the naturals in my area.

Considering a firefly represents a very opportunistic meal for a fish and the likelihood of lots of them falling upon the water at one time for comparison's sake; I'd pick one size and try it before tying a bunch in a whole lot of different sizes.
