For straw hats, the only ones that I would consider buying are those made from Palm. Most straw hats will more or less dissolve when they get wet, or have so much varnish that they will crack if they are bent too far.

Palm is nearly indestructible. I have a couple that I've had for nearly 10 years and they still function as they should. They have 10 years of sweat and use, but I pretty much chalk that up to "mojo".

I typically wear the canvas or breezer style hats while fishing as I prefer the olive / browns to the usual white of the straw hats.

Don't know why as I don't think a fish really cares much about what hat we wear but I feel more "camouflage" with the darker color hats.
