For the past few summers, I've headed up to the Whale river in Northern Quebec to fish for brookies, land-locked salmon, pike and lake trout. The river-dwelling lakers get pretty large, averaging ~10lbs and getting up to or exceeding 30lbs (quite the blast in shallow running water). Over the past few trips, I've managed to lose ~6 or 7 20+lb lakers due to them sawing the leaders and/or tippet over sharp rocks. They really seem to know how to use the bottom to their advantage in a fight, and with their weight and strength, it's hard to lift them away from the rocky bottom until they're quite tired. I've been using Orivs SS leaders and tippets, with the terminus testing between 15 and 18lbs.
Anybody have suggestions for leader and tippet material that has very good abrasion resistance? I've found that the Maxima brown is good in this respect, but that it is almost "brittle" - more prone to breaking at knots, especially when trying to free a snagged fly.

Thanks,
Troy
