Default How many flies could you ty from these feathers?

I was finally able to get out for a walk today. Headed straight for my favorite place, Little Buffalo State Park. Didn't take the fly rod but sure am glad I took the camera! The lake is about half frozen but those geese sure didn't seem to mind. Can you Ty a few quill bodies and wings with all these feathers?

    Each honk has about 50 CDC feathers. 50 X 15 = 750 divided by 2 = 375.

So if you use 2 CDC feathers per fly from these geese you could get - say 350 flies. (lol).

Don't forget the breast feathers. They go with G.Harvey's Night Fly like butter on bread!

I live on a small 50 acre lake where a family of five Canada Geese stays year round and flocks of a dozen or so migratory geese show up at any given time. Believe me, they leave a lot more than just feathers on the lawn. I thought I was going to have to put chains on my riding lawnmower tires to keep from sliding into the lake. Even with the geese moulting feathers every year, it's illegal to pick them up. I can mow over them, but I can't pick them up. Govenrment logic at it's finest.

Pretty birds, but they sure are messy

You are feeling better Eric. Nice pictures of the Honkers. Probably could tie a bunch of flies with those feathers. Jim

Illegal to pick them up? Is that a local law? Canada Geese feathers are legal to possess almost everywhere.

    Eric,

Aren't you suppose to be at home recouperating? If your boss happens to come accross this bb you sir would be in a lot of trouble.
