Default old crawdad with a new look

Here is an old pattern I have had, but never tied until now. I bought this little crawdad around 1990 and he worked really well with bass and trout. Crawdads where I live now are more brown than maroon. The old pattern has lost most of his color as well. Here are a few pictures of what I came up with

old pattern on the left with two attempts at duplication

    materials

    Hook - mustad 9672 sz 4
    eye - mono mediums
    weight - brass barbell
body - chenille medium olive and leather overbody
    wire - brown over body
hook guard - 25 lb mono
thread - 8/0 Uni thread Camel color

    three finished

Where might one purchase that leather? Is it available in different colors?

I picked up the leather in Omaha where I lived for 18 months.

They have alot of full hides, etc and then they have a bunch of scrap leather. I got that for a few bucks. Look for scrap brown leather or hide on ebay and locally.
