Thread: Batman Nymph

    Default Batman Nymph

    Howdy this is my first post so here it goes.

    I've been trying to find a material list for a fly called the "Batman Nymph". It's basically a prince nymph w/ a dubbed body instead of herl. I killed with it on the Madison last year but only had one example I picked up from my dad which he had bought from discountflies. Sadly I broke it off. I just booked a two week stay on my favorite stretch of the river and i'm putting together a list of flies I need to tye. This nymph is one of them but I can't find the material list anywhere for it. The dubbed body is some sort of metallic black/blue/purpleish dubbing I can't seem to match. Recently i've ordered some Ice Dubbing and tried mixing them to get the right color but I can't seem to get it right.

    This one?

    Or maybe;

    The dubbing looks like metallic purple estaz. ( this is known under lots of various names and is made in lots of types)

    This is wound on as a strand and not "dubbed" in the accepted sense.

    Thats the fly alright. Although the one I remember did not have rubber legs. I'm positive that it is not estaz in the body. It's some kind of dubbing. Either a prepackaged blende or a mixture. I'll keep on experimenting with some ice dub or other colors till I get it right or I find the prepackaged stuff. Not much to do at work tonight so maybe i'll do a little more research.

    Could be lite-brite;

    Or maybe "quick descent" or "diamond dub". There are so many brands and types now it is hard to keep track of them all.

    maybe even polar dub;

    Or UV purple ice dub;

    Ya it's a possibility. I'll deff check that stuff out. Ha I agree entirely with there being so many new synthetics and the like on the market now. It's like I need a Phd in fly tying to understand it all!

    Litebright in Pearl Blue/Black looks like an almost exact match to me. Thats awsome. I'll have to order some and try em out and see what it looks like close up.

    thanks Mike

    Found a better picture;

    and I think the "Purple Haze" lite brite is closer. Difficult to be sure as there is no way to know how accurate the pictures are!

    Would surprise me if it mattered that much, there can't be many nymphs in those colours anyway!

    Thanks Conners. 3 nights of google searching got me nowhere. One post on FAOL got the job done.

    Took a look at the spirit river website and found out they don't make the color pearl blue/black anymore. It could be under there "mixed" dubbing section under a different name however. Black Ice comes to mind. They do however still make the purple so i'll see if that truly is the correct color.
