Hi guys/girls,

Something came up at our TU meeting Tuesday night. I know this is kinda far away from most of you, but I thought some of you might be interested. There is a proposal right now for the state of Utah (via the School trust lands) to sell some land at the Green river, right across from little hole on the south side of the river. Just so you know, Little hole is the take out for the "A" section and the access point for most wade fishermen. To reach the south side, it's 40+ miles across unimproved dirt road to the location. We are also worried about if the roads are going to be improved and who will pay to maintain the Road (mainly in the winter). This was sprung on us late last week. The State lands folks didn't even Public notice this in the Salt Lake paper. The Denver post picked up the story Sunday or Saturday, which how most of us found out about it.

We're working really hard to try and stop this. Many of us are concerned about breaking up the river corridor and we have some serious access questions. In Utah, you can post the river bottom as "No trespassing" (we don't think that would happen, but you never know). We're not opposed to the lodge, just it's location. If you're going to build a lodge there, build it in Browns Park, Dutch John or somewhere on the N side of the river. At this point, our best bet is to try and get the Wildlife Department to propose a land swap for the School Trusts Lands. Some comments from out of state would be nice. Here are kind of our talking points.

First, the Trust lands Administration should work out a trade deal with DWR for the plot thus both sides come out way ahead. Second, the plot is littered with antiquities and historical Indian artifacts that should preclude any such development. Any other issues such as sewage, logistics of travel (i.e. and Little Hole ferry?), land use concerns, access etc. would also be useful to mention. Feel free to call instead of writing, and ask for Bryan (see contact info below).

"Written comments about a proposed lodge or competing plans for a 356-acre Utah School and Institutional Trust Lands parcel on the Green River across from the Little Hole Day Use Recreation Area should be submitted to Trust Lands Administration, 217 E. Center St., Suite 230, Moab, Utah, 84532. The deadline is 5 p.m. on Nov. 14. Those interested can also call 435-259-7414 to voice an opinion or interest in the land."

Thanks for any help you guys might be able to provide...
