    Default Reel reversal

I recently received a Daiwa 731A from a friend and due to it being a gift I would like to use it. It also seems like a pretty fair reel, especially for the price! However, I have to reverse the wind from R to L. I have it all figured out except for the ^%@)*!!!! friction spring! I looked at the Daiwa web site and it showed me where it goes but not how to hook it up. Anyone famililar with these reels and knows how? Thanks!

Hi Vic - looks to me like all you have to do is move part # 17 and 18 over to the unused post on the opposite side of the reel plate. Think "mirror image", and you'll be OK.

Parts 17 & 18 I knew.....it's part #15 that's making me pull my hair out. The breakdown doesn't show where they connect and....dopey me....I didn't notice it until AFTER it came loose. Somehow it connects to part #21. Surely that spring doesn't just lay on the click gear, part #19.

It has to be something simple that evades me.

It might be that simple - looks like there is a groove in part #19 for the spring to fit into, and it looks like the little nub on the spring makes contact with the bottom of part #21.

Try that, and put the spool on gently to see what you get.

Maybe this picture will help (from ebay):

Thanks Heritage! I tried connecting the "friction spring" in that manner and it worked....except that every time I wold reverse the reel the darn thing would come loose. I'll keep trying.....seems ridiculous as it appears so simple.
