Default Wingsdlc - Buck Tail Streamer

This is my first time putting a fly up on this forum. I do not think of myself as a great fly tier by I did want to take a few minutes and share.

    Materials:

Hook: Mustad streamer hook size 6.
    Body: Gold braided tinsel.
    Throat: Red wire.
Wing: White and orange buck tail, black bear fur and orange krystal flash.

    Prepare the thread.

Prepare the gold breaded tinsel then wrap the thread forward about one third of the hook away from the eye. Wrap the gold breaded tinsel forward and tie off.

Tie in the red wire in the second quarter of the hood from the eye. This wire not only adds a little weight to the fly to offset the buoyancy of the dear hair but also gives it the appearance of being wounded in the gill area.

    Tie in the krystal flash.

Next for the wing I tie in the hair starting with white on the bottom, orange in the middle and black on top. This gives it the fly a more minnow like layering.

The last steps are to give the fly a nice finished head and finish it off with head cement. With more recent versions of this fly I have added black nail polish to the head. The nail polish gives it a little classier look.

    Hi Wingsdlc,

That is a good looking fly and the fish like it as well. Good for you. If you would like to publish it in Fly Fish America, we are always looking for patterns to share with the readers. Just go to our Web site and click on Submit Fly and follow the instructions from there.

Again, that's a good looking fly (and instructions). As Ron suggested, be sure to send it to the good folks here on FAOL so they can use it as a Fly of the Week. Take care & ...

    Great looking fly.

I'll bet that will be irresistible to smallies as well as those trout you have in your pics!!

Thanks for all the nice comments. I think I will submit the fly to Fly of the Week. They have been a great help to me in my learning curve. Maybe I can return the favor.

Smallmouth.... Maybe using green instead of orange for the middle color... I guess it is time to hit the vice!
