As you write out your Christmas and holiday cards this year, besides all of the family, friends and a card to our soldiers; take a few minutes to send off a card to any landowners that allowed you to graciously access their land to go fishing.

I realize that in many places in the country you don't even have to ask. Without getting into the politics of access; here in Pennsylvania you do (or should) and for the most part it pays huge dividends when you do. When I gain access to private property, I make a note of the owner's name and address and make sure to send a Christmas card at the end of the year to say thanks.

I only do it once; in the year I first gain access unless a lifelong friendship evolves but I figure it may help keep some of the streams in my home state open for awhile longer. I also hope to show the landowner just how much I appreciate it.

Just a thought...
