I'm no champion caster. I'm self-taught, and I do well enough, normally.
But a couple of weeks ago I was fishing from my kayak, and I'd brought a sinking-tip fly line on an 8wt rod. I'd never tried casting this before. It was fine trolling with this set-up, but when I tried casting, more often than not my casts ended with the fly line and leader all wrapped around my rod.
I assume its because the sinking tip line is substantially heavier than the WF lines I'm accustomed to casting, and the line was simply dropping quicker than I'm used to on the forward cast?

Other than "practice practice practice", what suggestions can any of you offer as to what my problem may be, and how to remedy it?
