Thread: Russian River Bear Cubs

  1. Default Russian River Bear Cubs

Back in July, I began posting information on the killing of a Sow Brown bear in the Russian/Kenai River area. Last I heard, out of the three cubs she had, two are still in the area. Its been a big story here in Alaska. Just wanted to bring anyone interested up to date on the two cubs.

This link will take you to the website of a guide service in Soldotna, AK. I'm not affiliated with the service, nor is this intended to promote there business. They just took some really good pics of the cubs.

As far as the guy that killed the sow, he is still awaiting trial.

Thanks for getting the word out. It was a joy to see these bears fishing, comfortable and fat, getting ready for winter.

Is this the same area that was on OLN about all the fish not being around and all the bears being thin and them having to kill a bunch of them last year or it might have been longer then that. I watched that story and they were trying to blame everyone and there brother for the missing fish. Later Matt

    Matt,

I am not familiar with the story that you are referring to. Certainly, at the Russian River the fish will hold in the Kenai River when the water is low and the fisherman count is high (I suppose the fish cannot find a way through all of the legs?). The numbers were a bit low at the beginning of the season this year, however they came back with a vengance. It seems that all of the salmon runs related to the Kenai River and its tributaries were about 2 weeks late this year.

    Hope that helps...
