I'm with you BWO - good guys that deserve better. Another shop bites the dust . . . not a good omen for our sport (or our state)! How far behind can several of the other shops be?

How come? Illness? Not enough business? People not wanting to buy the gas to get there? Imported flies? ??? A real shame. How long had they been in business?

And I thought I loved to fish! Kelly is one dedicated guy:

"The Troutsman began in the mind of Kelly Galloup long before the business came into existence.

Maybe it was during one of those grueling 26 hour straight drive to and back from the Bighorn River in Montana. On a three day weekend Kelly would leave on Fri night drive 26 hrs to Montana arriving Saturday night catching a few hours sleep arising at dawn fishing all day Sunday. Leaving for Michigan Sun night arriving Monday night in time to sleep a few hours and be to work Tuesday morning. Wow!

Or maybe it happened after fishing 36 nights in a row for the Hex hatch..."

(This was from the background section of the website.)

Kelly sold the shop, I believe in 2001 to the present owners. Apparently they just didn't have what Kelly had to keep it a vital and successful shop. We have been there, and in fact, Kelly tied a Fly of the Week, Zoo Cougar, for us while we were there.

Kelly moved to Montana and is owner of the Slide-Inn on the Madison.

The website says the shop is for sale, not closing.

    Did I miss something?

    From their website:

The Troutsman is closing the doors on Oct, 15th, 2005. Great Deals on Rods, Reels, Clothing, Flies, and Tying goods, can be found untill the 15th. The Guide service will remain.

Glad to read that they are still guiding. They are the tops in that area.
