Without a boat, you can drive south from Cocoa Beach, past Patrick Air Force base, on A1A, turn right at Pineda Causeway, and go east. When you go over the big bridge, Banana River, exit at State Rd 3. You can then see places to pull off the road on the north side of the exit ramp. Pull off the road, and fish! The water is really high right now due to Tropical Storm Fay, but you can still wade a good ways. Remember to do the "Stingray Shuffle" as there are quite a few rays in the water. Take the 8wt, and a WF floating line, with some small poppers, clousers, and shrimp flies, and make sure some have weedguards. It probably won't be cool enough for waders that time of year, but you never know.
I have caught 2 seatrout that were about 6lb each on #4 poppers in that area, so good luck, and I may be able to join you if work permits!
