attn: duck hunters

I'm looking for a duck hunter that might be able to supply me with some widgeon flank feathers (interested in other duck flank as well, I have plenty of mallard.) I use these for collars on soft hackle flies.

My current stash came from a kind member of this board, but it's almost gone. I would be happy to trade some hand tied flies or furled leaders..

Sorry kengore...despite the name I don't hunt them any more...or I would be getting you some...if you ever get a chance try some gadwall...very nicely barred.

Iffen I shoot some (or my partner does), I could probably front you some. The only thing I use them for any more is tails on March Browns, and I don't fish any MB hatches any more, so... We get other odd ducks at times, ring-necked, goldeneyes, a few teal, although I try to stick to mallards. I have dibs on the wood duck flank, not that we have enough to worry about it.

Start nagging me about the middle of October, and especially into December, when I hunt more. I will have long since forgotten.

I shoot quite a few ducks and even guide duck hunters a bit for unusual sea ducks... Some have really nice flanks... Harlequin ducks have unbarred cinammon-colored flanks... Could probably promise some variety of flanks and other cool and odd flanks and other feathers.

Not in the duck feather selling or trading game but will save you some for nothing. SHipping is right on feathers!

Hunting season is when everyone looks for feathers LOL. Im hoping to get access to some land that I used to hunt Ruffed Grouse on and some out of staters bought it. Still waiting to hear.

Need to replenish with a few ruff skins for myself and hopefully some trading materials.

I haven't posted in a while, but this thread caught my eye. Since I still tie a lot of Catskill wet and dry patterns I've always been in the market for wood duck flank, but I solved my problem long ago. I knew high cost and rather rare supply would eventually come to woody flank. I started saving it up quite a few years back when my younger brother still duck hunted and I could beg, borrow, barter (I never stole) all I could for a back log.

I used to pick and size the choice feathers put them between two damp dish towels and steam press them flat, then seal about 20 or 30 in plastic sandwich bags and press them between pieces of cardboard for future use. I don't know how many sets I've got now but it's a lot, enough to last for the rest of "my" life anyway. I wish I had thought of that when a few other things in my life were plentiful, easy and cheap to get.......like original Mickey Mouse watches for instance.....
