I love the fall. This week it was rainy, the temperature dropped, Salmon season ended Oct 1st. Sunday (Yesterday) I was fishing a great stretch in solitude that just two weeks before had back bouncing sleds, drift boats and plug pullers as far as the eye could see.

I had the afternoon mayfly hatch all to myself, fishing in a gentle rain. I went to sleep last night replaying the day as a dream.

Different hatch too - The mayflies that came off, more gray, more translucent, and slightly smaller than they week before. The fish were polite, and did not mind my fly was a size too big and more pale yellow than gray. Being an emerger, after a few fish it became sized right as hackle was chewed off. Using holo mylar for the rib, I think it tends to look the color the fish think it should, the gray day reflected in the fly.
