I agree with ST. A salmon pin is the best.

Thanks for the pic. It was as good as expected

Your hooks sharp????
Thank you for all of your recommendations. I think I have narrow it down to the Silver Doctor or a mouse.
I have a couple of questions:
1. Where can I find a recipe and picture of the Silver Doctor? There are too many variations on the web and I do not know which one you are refering to. It will be nice to have tying instructions.
2. You guys prefer clip or unclip deer hair mice?
Thanks again.

"I never string up a trout rod without wild anticipation. Often, I've
been exhausted on trout streams, uncomfortable, wet, cold, briar-scarred,
sunburned, mosquito-bitten, but never, with a fly rod in my hand, have I been unhappy." Charles Kuralt
The silver doctor, and a few other salmon flies are available, tied on gold "pin hooks" from Trout Unlimited. $10 if I remember correctly. BTW TU is worthy of our membership $$$s.
What looks like the same "pin hooks" are available from at least one of the major supply houses , tho I am affraid I don't remember which one. They have a small gold ball on the point and a pin/catch on the back.

I'd go with a 2/0 bead head woolly bugger. Of course, the mouse does sound like it could be a chick magnet. Leave 'em unclipped and hairy. And for heavens sake you gotta get a flyrod in his hand. Convert him to the dark side and save him from a life of bait-slinging commie tackle sin.

I think I'd go with the Professor.

It's a pretty good looking fly.

Jesus still hangs out with fishermen.
Of course, if you can talk Ron Eagle Elk into sharing his Sioux Sunrise pattern with you, you'll have a fine looking fly that will make people forget there's a hat attached to it!

I tell ya what you don't want to give: any realistic buggy looking fly. This will save your pal many bops on the head from well-meaning friends trying to kill the bug before it takes off with the hat.
