Default Guy says - "There's no fish in this river"

Ha! Me and twenty-six small wild rainbows might disagree with him. All caught with my 1 wt. on a wet squirrel tail hair fly of my design.

I was standing in front of my home discussing fly fishing with a neighbor. I was wearing my fishing duds and holding my rod when the naysayer drove by. My friend remarked, "They will be biting this time of day" at which point I walked two and a half blocks to the river, assembled the rod, and tied on the fly. Sometimes being right is a lovely and sweet thing.

I love those rivers with no fish in them. They are never crowded.

Living two and a half blocks from a trout stream sounds like a "lovely and sweet thing" too. <sigh>

Ya gotta love those "there's no fish in there" types. I honestly feel that the ONLY thing that devoids any river of fish is serious polution. If someone says that to me, it's waving a red flag at a bull!! They just want you to go somewhere else (other than THEIR spot)!!

sadly there are no longer any fish in the Paluxy River down here by Glen Rose TX. But its a great place to go sight seeing! Just don't bring your fishing rod, what would be the point?

last year I caught one trout, and this year I caught several dozen. It seems that the river is recovering. No stocking has been done for ten years. I am fortunate indeed and grateful. Maybe next year I will need my 3 wt. I wish I had a digital camera to show you all this wonderful stream.

You don't need to be talking about a trout stream to have "no fish in there" comments. Here in Western MN there are some no-name lakes with some very nice LMB lurking in the weeds. One "little wetland" I stopped by a few years ago simply because there was some protection from the wind, and put a popper between a floating log and a bit of a dropoff on the bank and had a heart-stopping moment. Two days later, when the winds died down, I was in there with a canoe and a buddy who'd passed by the place dozens of times going elsewhere. We had a wonderful day. That's not the only place where that has happened. JGW

    LoL !!! ...

On saturday afternonn, ... I dropped my girlfriend off on a run, ... ran back to camp to get the canoe paddles ...

When I got back ... there was a fellow and his wife watching Renee casting.

"Why she fishin' there, ... ain't no fish there" ...

"Well sir, ... you just never know" ... as I go down to rejoin her, ... she hooks into a nice light snack.

    (Ren?e on the #8 - Sept 2005)

p.s. ... trout was for supper, ... so that's why it is OUT of the water for the photo.
