Those Hobie Outbacks look like a great fishing platform. If you fish alone - I would wonder about putting one on top of your car by your self. They are 65 lbs dry and could get to be more as you added toys to it. That is a lot of weight to put up on top of a car by yourself - particularly when it is 12 ft. long and the wind is blowing (like always in Iowa). I am sure folks do it but they may have younger backs that me. Also on most cars it is hard to get two kayaks side by side so you would likely need at least one J-hook instead of a roller. I wonder if this would be a good time to think about a trailer. You can get a basic frame from Harbor Freight and build a kayak rack and it would likely not cost any more than a Yakima setup. Keep us informed of what you decide.
