Yes Arizona is "quiet" weatherwise,
when compaired to a lot of other places.
But, when it comes to natural and man make
disasters, don't forget fire. Just a short
time ago this summer, we had a series of huge
and very destructive wildfires.
One fire of several years ago got to within 11 miles of my house. I could smell the wood burning and at first thought it was in my backyard. Friends living in the woods
to the South of me had to evacuate.
Tornadoes. The Tucson Chamber of Commerce
will die before they admit it, but tornadoes
do happen there. I saw one almost touch down
about a half mile from my old house.
The weather can get wild sometimes no
matter where you are. But, I'll take fires,
an occasional tornado, 120 deg. heat, killer
bees and such over a hurricane anytime.
Compaired to the victims of Katrina, we
are very lucky.
