    Default Short Rod...

Does anyone know of a short (6'6" or abouts) rod or blank that comes in 3wt or less and 5 or more pieces and is soft or slow in action?

I am looking for a small, short rod I can fish small streams, brooks and ponds I happen upon while hiking and camping the adirondacks. Most casting will be under 25ft with substaintial bank growth and overhead cover. I would like this rod to pack small (under 16") to fit in my pack. Also I would like to have the compleated rod be around $100 or less. This will be a bang around rod, frequently hitting branches and trees and if it breaks I don't want to worry about it.

I've considered the Winston LT 3wt but at $700 it wouldn't get used enough to justify the price at this point. I have an Orvis 3wt superfine already and use that whenever I know I am going fishing, but it is a 7'6" 2 piece and tough to pack when I'm not sure if I will be fishing or not.

    Any suggestions are most appreciated.

This is the one I have but it is only 3 pc and in the tube it is 29 inches long. It is a great little 3wt and only 6'3" long. It does meet your price range at $110. It does come with a cordura rod tube. I find it easy to transport. and nice to use. I fish a lot of areas with a lot of overhead cover with it. You can get it at Bass Pro Shops. John

Not sure how you feel about rod building, but Lamiglas makes a E-glass 6'6" 3wt blank in 6pc. I have built one of these Lamiglas rods, but mine is a 7' 3wt 3pc. These blanks are excellent, and they cast very well and have the mod-slow action that you are looking for. Check your PM.

Forecast makes a dandy little 6'6"2# in 4pc that is nice action.
Got may blanks (have built about 6 of em!!) from Hook and Hackle. The blank costs about $22.00!

    Question

Yo! Betty I couldn't quite believe $22.20 even for H&H . I checked and Its $52.20 for the 6' 6" rod kit. Unless you found a deal I missed.

hmm just thinking if the kit is $52.20 the blank must be cheaper but I couldn't find just blanks at H&H.

    do you have a link?

Ok! further research shows a H&H rod blank for an Incredible $16.50
    For a 6'6" 2wt frecast blank.

Tiger Eye, Forecast, and Batson all make a 6'6" 2# they all run about $50 by the time the rod is finished with parts and all.

A little higher say $150 would be a Dan Craft.

Thanks guys. I found the Forcast blank on another site for $26.15 but could only find the 2 piece on H&H site. The link just brings me to my empty cart. I've never built a rod, but I guess this will be as good as any time to start. I found the Lamiglass blank which would fit better, but at $100 for just the blank I think I will try my skills on the Forcast first. Thanks for all your help. I guess I will post on the rod building page on how to get started.

check out the Echo classic. I have the 7'6" 3 wt., it comes in 4 pc., for graphite, it's pretty soft (If you really want a slow action 3 wt., go with the lamiglas blank mentioned above). I just had mine out yesterday and had forgotten how much fun that little rod was. I think they only cost $140 or so...

Try putting their code in ... 6'6"2#4pc ... blank BB6624B If you want the whole kit (everything, book, parts, glues, etc) BB6624V. And there are various kits without the book (BB6624A), without the glues and no book (BB6624K). Each has a different price, each comfortably under $100.
<heh, heh, heh! Here comes another one to the dark side!!!> Oops! Did I think that one out loud?
