Question What kind of fish is THAT???

Was out fishing yesterday and caught a bunch of these fish in addition to my usual bluegill and largemouth. But I have no idea what it is.

Can anybody tell me what this thing is?

    Tim,
It might be a Golden Shiner?http://www.outdooralabama.com/fishin...golden400A.jpg

It is a Golden Shiner (aka Roach), as has been mentioned.

Forty years ago I used them for bait for largemouth fishing at the fabled Lake Jackson in Tallahassee, FL. We caught them using a cane pole with #16 hook baited with bread dough. To bring them in we anchored up inpockets of lily pads, chummed with stale bread, and beat the water with the cane poles to simulate, I imagine, the sound of fish feeding actively. At the time they were sold at the bait camps for 50 cents each--a dear price. Being a poor student, I found it necessary to catch my own.

BTW, they are perhaps the single best bait for largemouth.

    Ray,

Good find on the Rudd from the UK--I wasn't aware of them. Do you have them in CT? They look a lot like a golden shiner but unless Missouri has a new invasive, the fish in the pict is a golden shiner which is pretty common in MO....http://www.migrate6.kinetic.more.net...fish.cgi?id=20

How funny, I was catching minnows. I caught 5 of these in just a few minutes on a McGinty sort of thing.

And thanks for that link Brad. I see that there is a lot of great info on many of the fish of Missouri there. I'll be looking there first next time. I also found the MOFWIS (Missouri Fish and Wildlife Information System). I says it has info about over 900 species in the database.
