I spoke with a couple of Fish and Wildlife personnel this past weekend who were taking samples on the Sturgeon River in the northern lower penninsula of Michigan for sea lampreys. No evidence was found at that site but they have found evidence at other sites and will be chemically treating the river on 8July08. They said that the treatment will affect only the sea lampreys but will likely slow fishing considerably for two weeks as the trout will consume the (dead?) lamprey nymphs. (Not sure I understand that...)

The first two weeks of July is typically a busy time as it falls during the Auto industry's summer shutdown.

If you had plans to fish the Sturgeon you might want to be there before the 8th or late in July.
