    Default down sizing my bench...

For more reasons than I care to go into, I have decided to downsize my tying station. I have basically stopped tying commercially and would like suggestions on a small desk style tying bench. I currently have a 96" x36" desk top with a wall of shelfs behind it and 8 draws below. I was hoping for something about half that size. Does anyone have suggestions and or know where I may look? Bird?s eye Maple or what ever is not what I have in mind. Functionality with a bit of storage is my new goal. The thinning of materials maybe a bit of a trick though....

    TIA

Yumpin yiminie, Now thats a desk.
Try a pyter desk and remove the keyboard shelf with a 2 drawer filling cabnet for storage. Materials can be bagged and placed in labled hanging folders for storage and the hutch area is starage also. The right desk can be set up for around $150 and be quite funtional.
Then you could also move the puter to one end and tye on the other and have no expense with dual usage.

    Hey Harry,

I've seen some pretty nice desks and
computer cabinets at the Goodwill Stores
here for very little outlay. Occasionally
even a rolltop for under $50. Check them
    out. Warm regards, Jim

    Harry,
You're downsizing? Forget the desk, when's the garage sale?

    Best, Dave

Bones; Here is my suggestion for streamlining your tying station:

Go to Office Depot and pick out the best ergo computer workstation that suits your tastes and body. Then go get a six pack of those 8 drawer plastic drawer cabinet sets with wheels. get the ones that have flat tops. All that done, you have many options. You can mix and match drawers to get what goes where when and where you want it. You can put shelving across the cabinets to store books and dvds etc. The Workstation, of course, can hold a good set of speakers, a monitor and the desk will serve as the tying surface. Don't forget the leather computer chair

Harry you could probably get rid of some stuff by selling materials to go with your excellent tutorials! Ther is one called the EZ Tyer or check out office supply stores for desks with a bank of drawers on one side. Personally I would love to find a nice old rolltop desk with cubbies. Gotta keep an eye out for garage sales.

If you go the computer desk route don't remove the keyboard shelf. I find it very handy...in fact, added one to a homemade setup I have.
