    Default winding check fit

I've built about a dozen fly rods and I'm still not sure how the winding check should fit. I realize it's not supposed to be tight to the blank, but how lose should it be? I have a tiny gap with mine. Should I put some thread wraps under it to make it a little snugger or will the epoxy be enough?
    Thanks

I like them just a tish and I mean a tish loose. I use Pliobond on a toothpick to cement it to the cork and then wrap the thread tight against it. I don't like it tight cause it rubs the finish on the blank when trying to get it on. Just my 2 cents.

Winding checks are for hiding roughly reamed cork or creating a visual break between the cork and the blank. There isn't any real need for them other than aesthetics. If the check you have is a bit too loose, you can do a small butt wrap and slip it over the threads. If you don't want to wrap under it, the epoxy will hold it fine. Personally, I'd wind the thread under it so that it can't end up off center while the epoxy cured.
