Default The Importance of Cranefly Larva

The fishing was painfully slow today so we broke out the kick net to see what kind of bugs were around. All of the usual suspects were present but there were a lot of cranefly larva. They were in shallow riffles and seemingly would at times be avalible to trout. There were a lot of them. Everything I have ever read says they are burrowers and are not important as food but when put them back in the river they seemed to drift away almost neutrally. They don't have much to hold on with either. Does anyone actually fish with a cranefly larva pattern?
