    Default About cleats.

Do you just go with the suggested pattern the boot comes with or do you vary it a bit, perhaps leave some out so the felt can more easily come in contact with the rocks.

Is there such a thing as too many cleats?

    I think so!

Too many or cleats that protrude too far can be treacherous on bare hard rock. Think ice skates. Soft rock or moss covered rocks aren't as big a problem.

I have two brands that came with studs; Chota STL and Korker Konvertables. I leave both the way they came from the factory and if I was inclined to add studs I'd use about the same amount on the Korkers but maybe one or two less on the Chota's because of the size of the studs.

If you are adding studs to a plain sole start out with a few and add as necessary using an studded shoe as a guide.
