Checking out the site now. I love the pics! Nice to know that they can find some time to enjoy themselves there. I was in the Navy myself and I enjoy seeing stuff like this.

I was honored to be part of the group that assembled the the equipment sent to Lt. Joel Stewart to start that school. Part of my contribution was having ball caps made that have "Baghdad Fly Fishers" palm trees and an oasis embroidered on them. We sent caps to the original class members and each of us got a cap...45 caps total as I recall. I am inordinately prould of mine and wear it as my standard fishing cap.

Just goes to show you what can be done when you are in another country with absolutely nothing but an idea. This was started and promoted entirely by the members of the chat room of The Fly Fisherman website.

Like Colston, I too was fortunate enough to be among the initial group of contributors. While I wish I was able to wear the honorary cap that I received, I'm among the "cranially well endowed" that cause most hats these days to be sold as "one size fits most" instead of "one size fits all". I gave the hat to the local fly shop that was kind enough to help me in the effort, and they displayed it prominently in one of their display cases, but alas, they closed at the end of last year. I haven't seen the former owners since then, but am hopeful that the hat was given to someone on active duty or otherwise found its way to an appropriate noggin. It's a cause that needs to be talked up once in awhile.

JC: That post and recognition was quite gracious of you. The funny part is, many of the leaders of the effort can't go to that board anymore.

I am very grateful to have had the opportunity to be a small part of that initial group of individuals and businesses. I wear my hat with pride, not in what I did, but for what the School does for our men and women that put their lives in danger each day. The group that got behind the School are some of the best representatives and ambassdors of fly fishing that I know and I am proud to be a friend of many of them, it is an honor indeed.
