    Default ALaska Fly Fishers

We will have our booth again this year at the Great Alaska Sportsmens Show (or GASS ) and if yoyu are local, please stop by and say hello. I am running the booth this year and have been very happy with the support given.

For a raffle prize this year, Mountain View Sports has donated a G Loomis GL3 8wt, 9', 2-piece rod. Raffle tickets are available at the booth. Starting directly after the show we will host a series of fly fishing seminars, mostly geared at folks new to Ak and/or fly fishing.
    thanks

Starts Thursday and I can get tickets for you if you like... If you win I will even store the rod for you until you can come and get it!

    Art,

Have fun working the booth up there. I always enjoy meeting new people and working a club booth at an event like that is a great way to do it, besides, you never know when you may get a person to give fly fishing a try.

Let me know if I won the fly rod/reel drawing .

Well, I didn't get a call from Art (HAP) so I guess I did't win the rod and reel, so be it. I hope the Alaska Fly Fishers had a great action and made enough money to carry them through the rest of the year.

    Default Show/Money

I've never been to Alaska but it's one of my dreams. If you guys got together I bet you could come up with the air fair for me. Ha Ha! I've been reading books about Alaska and it sounds wonderful. My latest is: "Frank Glaser: Alaska's Wolf Man." I hope you all have a great time up there at the show. Maybe you could post some pictures.

Sorry to say you did not win the G Loomis rod and reel... We sold over 1,000 tickets at a buck a throw, so it was pretty skinny in the odds department. Our monthly meeting last night, which just happened to be immediately after the show was very well-attended with plenty of new folks, a primary goal.

We signed up a number of new members and did our best to promote the fly fishing seminar we will be holding over the next 5 weeks.

A couple members put significant effort into a new handbook for the seminar and just got it off the presses in time to show it off. A neat spiral bound book complete with neatly updated diagrams, lots of color plates and a neat overview of fly fishing and enough specific info to be useful for newbies and recent transplants.

All in all I believe it was a success. Thank you for your part in making that happen.

To late but I found this link. http://www.greatalaskasportsmanshow.com/

Looks like a fun affair. I used to live 60 miles from AK. and have visited Annette Island In the 1960's . Friendly people. I fished both sides of the A-B line.
For God's sake, Don't Quote me! I'm Probably making this crap up!

Wolfman is a very good book. Black Rapids is a magical place in many ways. My sister sat on the AK Outdoor Council for many years and when she left the board she was given a trap and drag found in a strange clump of grass on a ridge in the area Glaser trapped for many years using that very sort of innovation.

His grayling fly fishing stories were pretty shocking to some, but that was the way it was in those days. We fish a few spots that may well have been his exact spots and the fish are still goofy-thick!
